A Real Find to Share
And a treasure for one of our sister history preservation groups.
This month a very old, hand written book (1861) appeared out of a storage box at the Archives - a translation from the original German of the fairy tale Undine. Research unearthed no connections of the author, Martin L. Mead - to Hot Springs, but did find he was born in Vermont, moved to and died in Colorado. The little town of Mead, CO was named in his honor by his son. When we contacted the Historical group there, they were so very excited about our discovery as it showed yet another side of one of their founding fathers that was hitherto unknown. We obtained information from them on the family (past and present) and the settling of that area, and proceeded to share with them this small piece of their history.
